Cacao Bliss Balls

A classic favourite! Bliss balls or energy balls come in many varieties and can easily be customised with your choice of nuts and seeds. Small but mighty, they pack a punch of flavour and are a healthy and delicious accompaniment to a hot chocolate or to pop in a lunchbox for a sweet treat!

Our recipe uses three ingredients: dates, walnuts, and cacao powder, making them both vegan and gluten-free!

You’ll need:

1 cup of walnuts

1 cup of dates

2 tablespoons cacao powder

1. Finely chop walnuts. If you’ve got a food processor, use that until you’ve got a crumbly

texture. I did not, so I finely chopped and then added the walnuts to a large mixing bowl where I

then used a hand blender to chop them into smaller pieces.

* My number one pro-tip here would be to pop a tea towel over the bowl if you’re using a hand

blender so that none of the walnuts escape!

2. Finely chop dates. Again, if you’ve got a food processor - go ahead! If not, you can chop the

dates with a sharp knife. You’ll want small ‘nib’ sized pieces.

3. Combine walnuts and dates in a mixing bowl and add the cacao powder.

4. Mix the walnuts, dates, and cacao together with your hands and then shape into balls.

5. They can then be eaten immediately or popped into an air-tight container in the fridge.

I personally rate them after a few hours in the fridge as the ingredients have time to solidify! You can also roll them in cacao powder or coconut for serving.
