Zero-waste living with Beth Walker

Join zero-waste activist, Beth Walker for a talk on sustainable living and maintaining a zero-waste lifestyle.

Beth has lived waste-free since 2018, inspired by attending one of The Rubbish Trip’s talks where she learned that recycling is an inadequate solution to our global waste crisis.

Beth tries to minimise waste in all areas of her life by fully subscribing to the refuse, repair, and reuse ethos.

Organic Rescue Cacao and Maca Elixir from Peru with Seleno Health

The team from Seleno Health will be offering knowledge and hot drinks of their amazing premium organic rescue cacao and medicinal maca direct from their Peruvian farm to your New Zealand table.

Rescue cacao is unique as it is shade-grown under the amazon jungle canopy – rescuing the jungle from deforestation and protecting the environment of the Amazon. It is rescuing farmers from the illegal cocaine industry that were forced into growing coca leaf by the local cartels and providing a living wage legal alternative. It is also rescuing the ancient traditions of cultivation and ceremony that date back over 5000 years in Peru.

Medicinal maca is high-vibrational maca made by us with love following ancient traditions, it is heat activated to protect your gut and scientifically standardised to ensure potency.

We empower our community in San Jose de Quero, Peru by providing: A fair, liveable wage for farmers, social responsibility projects, and preservation of ancient cultivation methods.

Come along and show your support and tantalise your taste buds by hearing about and trying some delicious organic rescue cacao and medicinal maca. We will be offering a Decadent Ceremonial Cacao Elixir – made using our premium organic cacao range and also a rich creamy Vanilla Maca Latte, both drinks topped with crunchy organic cacao and maca nibs.

Don’t miss out, see you there from 10:00 am - 5:30 pm

Inner City Repair Café at Hopper

Are you slowly creating a pile of 'to repair' clothing? Your favourite T-shirt has a hole in it, or your toaster broke last week? Come on down and learn how to fix it with the help of experts!

Hopper and Inner City Wellington are collaborating to host a Repair Cafe on the 29th of May, at the Hopper Refill Shop.

What is a Repair Café?
Repair Café is a movement that started in the Netherlands in 2009. Repair café events are now held internationally and have been running in New Zealand since 2016, predominantly in Auckland but also more recently nationwide. Repair cafes are free meeting places, and they are all about repairing things together – visitors with broken items and repair specialists coming together to repair and learn or just enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

We provide the snacks, hot drinks, people who know what they are doing and tools for fixing! You bring your lovely selves, items that need repairing and koha for those helping out.

Give a Meal in May: Hopper Community Potluck

This May, our neighbours at Kaibosh are encouraging New Zealanders to get together, give a meal in May and help them provide 100,000 meals for those who are doing it tough.

The idea is that you donate to Kaibosh what you would normally spend on a meal out, with the funds going to help them do their incredible mahi of providing food to those who need it most. For every $20 donated, Kaibosh can provide 32 meals.

At Hopper, we've decided to host a community potluck. Bring a dish to share, and koha what you're able, with all the funds going to Kaibosh. From 6:30pm on Wednesday 26th May.

About Kaibosh: Founded in 2008, Kaibosh was the first food rescue organisation in New Zealand.

Operating across the Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kāpiti and Horowhenua regions, Kaibosh rescues quality surplus food from local businesses including supermarkets, farmers' markets, factories, logistics companies and growers, and redistributes it to over 100 charities and community groups supporting people in need.
