Customers: Belinda and Lachy

We interact with many great humans here at Hopper who we find inspiring, interesting, and just downright cool! Two cool humans are our customers, Belinda (20 - Bachelor of Design - Photography) and Lachy (24 - Teacher aid & Music Tech student), who made an inspirational New Year's resolution: going zero-waste

"When we started going to the markets and bringing our own bags, we realised how much waste food packaging creates. Up until then, we had tried avoiding packaging when it was convenient for us. So when Lachy posed the idea for our New Year’s Resolution to go zero-waste, we decided to take on the challenge and reset our habits!", says Belinda.

What is their biggest motivation? "It’s definitely about the environment. You can feel a bit defeated thinking: yeah what difference will it make- I am just one person? But our waste is starting to become a problem that we just can’t keep ignoring", says Lachy, "That’s why I make an effort, and hopefully the more people who do, the bigger this conversation will become. That will lead to more sustainable options for people."

Belinda first came across Hopper when she was living at The Cube apartments around the corner. "You have to do some preparation, but once you make the routine, it's no longer hard at all", says Belinda about shopping package-free. "My best advice would be to phase out or replace your packaged items. Deciding if you can make do with an alternative, will be your best step-by-step guide! For me, this meant making my own crackers, bread and next, I’m going to try oat milk!"

Lachy and Belinda aren't 100% waste-free but for them, it's all about reducing. As Belinda puts it: "Zero-waste isn’t just about buying things sustainably, it’s about all parts of your life- like sewing up the holes in your socks and using them again!"

Thank you for shopping at Hopper Belinda and Lachy!
